Get contractor quotes you can actually compare

Before you call anyone, write down the job once. Send the same list to every contractor, and the quotes that come back will cover the same work — so a low price can't hide missing items.

Choose your project

1

Fill in the job

Size, ZIP code, the products you want, and anything unusual about your home.

2

Send the same sheet to everyone

Email it, print it or save the PDF — three contractors is a good number.

3

Compare what comes back

Put the quotes side by side and see what each still leaves out.

Common questions

What is a quote request template?

It's a one-page list of what you want done, sent to every contractor before they quote. It names the items each quote must price (like removal, permits and cleanup), the products you want, and the terms you expect in writing. Contractors then quote the same job, so their prices can be compared directly.

Why do contractor quotes for the same job look so different?

Each contractor decides what to write down. One may include the permit, disposal and a warranty; another may leave them out or call them "extras" later. Different product grades and sizes also change the price. A shared scope removes most of that guesswork.

Do contractors mind getting a written scope?

Good contractors usually welcome it — it saves them time and shows you're comparing fairly. If a contractor recommends something different, ask them to quote it as a separate option so you can still compare the base price.

Is it free, and do you keep my details?

It's free and needs no account. Everything you type stays in your browser. You decide whether to email it, print it or save it as a PDF.
